As it became known, the chairman of the intergovernmental committee on physical education and sports, on education, science and culture, was elected Cuban by Arnaldo Rivera. At the plenary meeting, which ended last Wednesday in the French capital Paris, the director of the teaching department at the National Institute of Sports, Physical Culture and Recreation, Arnaldo Rivero, was appointed to the post of chairman of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee. Rivera, who is also an expert on the island of the Caribbean, received the first congratulations on his appointment to this honorary and responsible position from the members of this group, which was created in 1978 to promote sport and include it in public policy.
The Committee is composed of eighteen experts representing Member States of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Members of the Committee are elected for a four-year term. In addition to the great work that the Cuban Arnaldo Rivero does in his homeland as director of the teaching department at the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, he received a calling for several large-scale projects that were carried out thanks to Rivero in many countries around the world and in a number of different international organizations. Arnaldo Rivero has received several honorary awards for his work. In addition, he is currently President of the National Commission for the History of Sports and the Standing Committee of the Pan American Council for the Planning of Physical Culture, which includes about forty-six states.
