Cuba called on the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, to be consistent in the fight against terrorism and to abandon the policy of double standards that exists in this area. This call was made last Wednesday by Cuban President Raul Castro. The speech of the Cuban leader was held at the Ministry of Defense during a solemn event dedicated to the memory of the victims of terrorist acts. In particular, he said that starting from this year, on October 6, the “Day of Victims of State Terrorism” will be celebrated on Liberty Island. Raul Castro said that the Cuban government appeals to the President of the United States of America Obama with a call without double standards, to act harshly against those who, being on American soil, continue to prepare or commit terrorist acts against the statehood of Cuba.
Castro recalled the tragedy that occurred 34 years ago over the coast of Barbados. Then, as a result of a terrorist attack, the plane of the Cuban air carrier Cubana de Aviacion was blown up. 73 people were killed (5 citizens of the DPRK, 11 residents of Guyana and 57 Cubans). This was the deadliest terrorist act in the history of the Latin American region. Official Havana and a number of Latin American states consider Luis Posada Carrilles one of the main organizers of the terrorist attack, who today lives quietly in Miami, enjoying freedom. According to Castro, since 1959, the Cuban people have become a real target of state terrorism. Over the past half century, various illegal actions have been constantly committed against the citizens of Cuba: bombing, arson, hijacking ships and aircraft, sabotage, attacks on objects, kidnappings and killings of diplomats.
