Beauty will save the world, and it will start doing it with eleven lucky cities that participate in the All-Russian art project “Beauty. Cities”.By the end of summer, on the gray and plain end facades of residential buildings and public buildings in Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Ufa and Chelyabinsk, masterpieces of young artists will appear. Painting your house is a great way to transform the city, make it brighter and more attractive.
In Europe, monumental painting is a fairly common form of art, whole groups of artists are engaged in the transformation of ordinary buildings into pearls of painting.
The competition was announced by KIT Finance Investment Bank in February of this year. 250 artists of the country decided to try their hand. The jury, which included recognized figures of culture and art – architectural critic Grigory Revzin, artists Andrey Bartenev and Veronika Ponomareva, decorator Albina Nazimova, as well as representatives of the city administration and KIT Finance Bank, selected the best sketches.
“The main taboo that we set for all participants in the project was the absence in the plot of a hint of rudeness, immorality, something that could cause people to have a negative, negative message,” says Veronika Ponomareva.
So, the main selection criterion was beauty in all its diversity…. The organizers of the project hope that the living pictures will change people’s lives for the better, give them some joy and happiness!
Unfortunately, Chelyabinsk talents did not respond very actively to the competition. Dozens of submissions were submitted. The fact is that the competition was announced late and not everyone managed to take part in it. However, there were young artists who quickly got their bearings, and one of them is Ekaterina Motorina, the winner of the project. The girl studies at the South Ural Institute of Management and Economics at the Faculty of Design. Having learned about the competition, Ekaterina immediately, in just two hours, created sketches and sent them to the jury. Both drawings were appreciated.
Her first work – “The Sun” – brings goodness, joy, sincerity, love for the world, it is made in the pictorial manner of a child’s drawing. The second – “Cat” – conveys the game, fun, energy of life, activity and love of life. It is made in a decorative manner of watercolor graphics.
Paintings by Ekaterina Motorina will appear in Chelyabinsk on Pobeda Avenue 151 and 153-a in the near future. The city administration gladly supported the project.
“Our place of residence needs to be decorated,” says the head of the Department of Culture of the city administration. With the end of summer, the project “Beauty. Cities”. In the fall, Moscow will host a grandiose exhibition, which will feature before and after photographs of buildings, and the jury will choose the best art object. The winner will receive a prize – 10 thousand US dollars.
