The largest public organization on the Island of Freedom, the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, has started holding special events throughout the country since yesterday. The purpose of these activities is to reduce the level of crime on the island. According to Secretary for Observation Miguel Marrero, Exercise No. 25 will be held in Cuba from Wednesday to Saturday under the slogan of protecting socialism. They will be held in all zones of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution with the active participation of the police and other organizations. According to one of the heads of the nationwide non -governmental organization of Cuba, which was created in 1960, these exercises should lead to a sharp activation of folk observers who follow the order in each area. It will also help to identify existing weaknesses in the system.
In addition to night observations, representatives of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution plan to visit prisoners serving sentences in Cuban prisons, visit those who have recently been released from prison and talk to potential troublemakers. Today, over 8 million people are members of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution. These exercises are held twice a year. The organization includes representatives of each microdistrict who monitor the observance of sanitary standards in their districts, solve problems that arise between neighbors, pay increased attention to the poor, take part in subbotniks for the improvement and cleaning of their territories. Committees for the Defense of the Revolution were created on September 28, 1960. In 1962, they played a very important role in the successful conduct of the first mass vaccination of the Cuban population.
