Two questions were submitted to the Crimean referendum: 1) You are in favor of the reunification of Crimea with Russia as a subject of the Russian Federation?2) You are for the restoration of the Constitution of the Republic of Crimea of 1992 for the status of Crimea as part of Ukraine?
As we know, in Simferopol, at some precinct commissions, a record turnout of residents was recorded for the entire time of independent Ukraine. In Shchelkino, according to an anonymous source, at 2 p.m. turnout was about or slightly more than 60%. People went to express their position, mainly in the morning and by lunchtime the flow of citizens became less. Despite the fact that preliminary polls showed a vast majority of citizens in favor of the first option on the ballot, some residents voted for the second option, preferring autonomy within Ukraine. It is worth noting that the vast majority of Shchelkinites made their choice in favor of the Russian Federation. Voluntary residents of the city of Shchelkino did not want to voice their decision to the camera for one reason or another.
The precinct commissions of the Crimean referendum in the city of Shchelkino were guarded by the Cossack community “Kazantip” and local self -defense representatives. As the residents of Shchelkino note, the expression of will at the referendum is very civilized. Personally, I can note that the members of the commissions are extremely polite and courteous. The Cossacks and the Crimean self-defense do not interfere in the process of expressing the will of the Crimeans, with the exception of suppressing attempts at photo and video recording. As we learned from other regions of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, non-accredited journalists and public figures are not allowed to film in the premises where the referendum is taking place.
