Finally came the long -awaited hour. The child, which spent about nine months in the mother bosom, is looking forward to its birth. It was safe in the womb, since the cervix was tightly closed. However, now the neck relaxes and becomes thinner and softer. The amazing process of birth begins. The body of a pregnant woman undergoes many changes that cause childbirth. But two of them are the most striking. The first change is that the hormone oxytocin becomes intensely secreted. This hormone is produced in the pituitary gland of both women and men. However, in the expectant mother with the onset of childbirth, oxytocin is produced in large quantities. This opens the cervix and contracts the uterus. How does the brain of a pregnant woman know when to start intensively producing oxytocin? It remains a mystery. In the book “A Fascinating Journey”. The secrets of the human body” says: “Somehow the woman’s brain feels that the pregnancy is over and it’s time for strong uterine muscles… embark on a short but heroic task”. The second change is related to the placenta, which stops producing progesterone during childbirth. This hormone during pregnancy prevented a strong contraction of the uterus. However, now, due to his absence, the uterus begins to contract, and childbirth occurs. Usually they last 8-13 hours, and then the baby comes out through the relaxed and dilated cervix. After that, the placenta is also released. The newborn must quickly adapt to completely new conditions. In the womb, his lungs were filled with amniotic fluid. These waters come out as the baby moves through the birth canal. In order for the child to breathe, the lungs must be filled with air. Sometimes during childbirth, you have to use special oxygen cylinders so that the baby quickly breathes on its own. It is the first cry that informs that the baby succeeded. Also fundamental changes are made in his cardiovascular system. The opening between both atria and the blood vessel that bypassed the lungs are closed, and the blood now flows directly to the lungs, where it is enriched with oxygen. The baby adapts so quickly to the world around him that it is simply amazing.
