There are so many ATMs in Ireland that you can easily find them. You will find them in bank branches and beyond, as well as in supermarkets, shopping malls and even nightclubs.

When you withdraw cash abroad, you run the risk of being charged twice: first by your bank, and then by the bank servicing the ATM itself. Before you leave, make sure you know how much your bank charges you for withdrawals outside of your country. You will also need to keep an eye on ATM messages notifying you of additional fees. Fortunately, most ATMs, especially in tourist areas, will offer you a choice of languages so that you can be aware of what is going on.
Despite the fees, using an ATM is a popular choice as it is convenient and the exchange rates are usually fair.
Most major retailers and service providers accept credit or debit cards. Visa and MasterCard cards are most often accepted (along with cards marked Maestro or Cirrus). American Express is not always accepted, so bring some cash with you if this is your main card.
Sometimes in Ireland, small independent retailers do not accept card payments for transactions of small amounts (10 euros or less) due to bank fees. With DCC, you can see the cost indicated in your home currency. Unfortunately, although this is called a “service”, it means that a foreign bank gives you low rates and, often, higher fees. Always choose to pay in the local currency, in euros. Thus, your home bank (which wants you to remain a regular customer) will apply a more favorable rate to your transaction.
